5 April 2016 : The Public Relations Media and CSR (PRMC) department organised a series of exclusive interview between the Malaysian National News Agency (BERNAMA) with Selangor Entrepreneurship Stimulus (SES) participants sponsored by Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad (Perangsang Selangor).

Our first destination was located at Asyarif Bazaar, Masjid Lama Meru, Klang where we visited a stall owned by entrepreneur Nor Salmi Darman, a single mother aged 39 who have significantly improved her family’s income through ‘laksa and cendol’ business since 2015. Nor Salmi was one of the skills course participant run by Hijrah Training and Management, a training provider appointed by Perangsang Selangor to provide guidance on how to start a business, produce a delicious ‘laksa’ gravy and to make the perfect cendol mixture. The proceeds from sales of ‘laksa and cendol’ which could reach up to RM7,000 a month was enough to support her family and to cover her children’s school expenses. In addition, Nor Salmi also received equipments worth RM3,000 from Perangsang Selangor as assistance to start her business.

Next we headed to Selayang to meet a tailor and SES participant, Paezah Abu a 58 years old widow with three children who also managed to generate income from her home tailoring business at Blok Rumah Pangsa, Pandan Jaya. She started off by attending the skills training organised by Kamsiah Tailoring Academy and later received sewing machine assistance from Perangsang Selangor. Paezah is now earning approximately RM1,200 a month. Among her tailoring expertise are ‘baju kurung’, dresses, pants, ‘baju melayu’, children’s clothes and veil.

Both SES entrepreneurs were selected for the BERNAMA interview due to their success in business. Their experience and success story will be a morale booster and should be an eye-opener to young generations especially the unemployed to change their fate. As a Malay saying goes ‘where there is a will there will always be a way’.
