Perangsang Selangor organises cycling programme for visually impaired
SHAH ALAM, Oct 20 -- Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Bhd (Perangsang Selangor) today organised a 50-km cycling programme, “Kayuhan Merentas Daerah” in support of the visually impaired group.
Associate Director, Investment Relations and Strategic Communications, Mohd Fauzi Mohd Razali said the programme was organised with the support of the Clever Speda Cycling Club, and saw the participation of 70 cyclists from the Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB) , Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), Shah Alam students and cycling enthusiasts from all over the state.
"The cycling programme, themed, 'Explore With Your Heart' began at the Plaza Perangsang here and ended at the Tadom Hill Resort, Banting.
"It was aimed at promoting a healthy lifestyle through cycling activities, apart from giving the community a chance to get closer to the visually impaired group by using tandem bicycles," he told reporters after flagging off the event here today.
Also present was MAB deputy president Dr S Hadi Abdullah and the UiTM Shah Alam sports science programme director, Hosni Hassan.
Elaborating further, Mohd Fauzi said the programme could also be viewed as giving an opportunity for the visually impaired to involve themselves in cycling activities, although having a problem in this regard, due to their inability to see.
He said the programme under the “Sport for All” initiative, was held for the first time, while involving the visually impaired community.
"The staging of this programme underlines Perangsang Selangor’s corporate social responsibility and places much importance on sustainability, not just limited to business, but also all levels of the differently abled and less privileged groups.
"The programme was also much welcomed by the MAB. It hoped that more people would come forward and organise similar activities in the future,” Mohd Fauzi added.
