SMK Dato' Harun's players and coaches with Dato' Mokhtar Dahari charity shield cup

AMPANG JAYA, June 19, 2019: In the opening match of Dato' Mokhtar Dahari Cup Football Championship 2019, SMK Dato' Harun, Tanjung Karang under-18 football team defeated SMK Tinggi Kajang with a 1-0 score line and bagged the Charity Shield Cup for the first time in 6th edition of the tournament.

Mohamad Firdaus Amir Nordin, SMK Dato' Harun’s midfielder emerged as the hero after he scored the only goal of the match through a penalty kick in the 49th minute of the second half.

The Dato' Mokhtar Dahari Cup which began on June 15, 2019, saw 576 under-18 footballers took part in this year’s tournament representing 32 teams from nine districts throughout Selangor.

The opening ceremony was officiated by Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ), YBhg Dato' Abdul Hamid Hussain and witnessed by Chairman of the Tournament, YDH Dato' Emran Kadir at MPAJ Stadium in Kuala Lumpur.

Dato' Emran explained, "The main goal of the tournament is to identify and unearth new football talents so that they can be groomed to higher level and feature as state players thus, restore the glory of Selangor in the Malaysian football arena."

"The 2019 edition of the tournament maintains participation of secondary schools from 10 district education offices throughout Selangor which have been elected through the District Schools Sports Council (MSSD) Championship which ended in early May," he added.

The final event is expected to take place on July 12, 2019 at 8.00 pm at Arena Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ), USJ 5 Subang Jaya.

The champion will receive a cash prize of RM10,000 as well as medals, certificates, and championship trophy. The runner-up, RM7,000 with medals and certificates. Third place, RM5,000 while fourth place, RM3,000 with medals and certificates. Additionally, there will be the man-of the-match award, top scorer, best goalkeeper and best supporters to be offered in the tournament.

Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor Berhad emerged as the main sponsor of the tournament with sponsorship worth RM150,000 for the 6th consecutive year since it was introduced in 2014. In conjunction with this event, the Youth Development Unit of Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) will also organise a football clinic with the aim to provide exposure and basic skill to young footballers.
