Ecofrenz Tree Planting Programme

Ecofrenz Tree Planting Programme

The overall key objectives that KPS achieved through this project included:

  • instilling a sense of responsibility towards the environment among stakeholders,
  • educating the local community on the need to protect their surrounding environment,
  • introducing the concept of urban forests within specific locations, and
  • encouraging participants to adopt waste management practices.

We recognise that urban development and expansion continue at the cost of the natural environment as it leads to the deforestation of unreserved and reserved forests at an unrelenting pace. This year, we decided to embark on a tree-planting project with CBB to share the responsibility of safeguarding the environment with the local communities and to set an example.

The tree-planting activity that took place on 15 September 2019 at Larkin, Johor Bahru and involved 140 participants representing key stakeholder groups including Majlis Bandaraya Johor Bahru (MBJM), Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Kelab Media Johor (KMJ), Department of Environment, Sinar Harian, residents, CBB staff and KPS staff.

On the day of the event, participants were divided into 10 groups and were given seven micro-activities organised across seven different stations respectively. These activities focused on educating participants on the sustainable use of natural resources, strengthening cooperation between corporates, the community and authorities, and encouraging participants to adopt the 3R culture in their daily lives.
